From a quiz about “How British Are You?”
No, you’re not an expert on British culture because you like two things which are British, especially when those happen to be the two British things which everyone in the world knows. I can’t quite speak for British people, but I know that I would find it pretty damn insulting that someone thought they knew my culture in and out based on TWO THINGS about it.
Maybe I’m reading too much into this.
But then again, don’t I do that with everything I post on this site?
Also, this is the second time this person has posted something worth of What The Hell HEX. We don’t even have 10 posts and we already have a repeat offender!

Lessons learned:
1. Post in the wrong forum. As wrong as possible. Go for a forum with a very specific purpose, and post something random and inane there.
2. Swear. We all know how HEX feels about naughty language.
3. Post about something no one “your” age would be concerned about – like a 9-year-old poster getting possessive about her boyfriend.
4. Give it a nonsense word for a title. Just in case you haven’t made it abundantly clear already that your post is not to be taken seriously. After all, what says “trolling” better than banging your thumbs on the keyboard?
And there you go! A one way ticket to Azkaban will arrive by owl-post in due time!
I must admit, I was intrigued when I saw there was a thread on “artificial intelligence” in the Ravenclaw CR, and curious as to why no one had replied. Then I read the post:

My thoughts? You want to know my thoughts on the matter? My thoughts are that you got punk’d.

But nonetheless, it is still a chatterbot – the same thing as IM spambots and that Online Wish-Granting Genie my friend and I played around with in 7th grade typing class. And it’s just as easy to mess with. Check out these exchanges and see if you think they come from something with sentience:

In the end, it’s really just a generator which has been designed to recognize different words and sentence structures, and in a few cases whole sentences. It’s no more sentient than the thing which generates Facebook ads based on your profile info is. It doesn’t have real hopes and dreams, or likes and dislikes. It doesn’t want to or have the ability to destroy humanity. It probably doesn’t even know how to ROBO-BOOGIE!
And if you can’t figure that out, you’re an idiot. An idiot who has read way too many sci-fi novels. See, despite what (I suspect) the people who do the sorting for HEX think, LIKING BOOKS DOES NOT AUTOMATICALLY MAKE YOU SMART.
P.S. That’s not really what reductionism means and also, it’s stolen from xkcd. Major GEEK FAIL not to recognize that. Our noble house founder is tossing and turning in her grave.
Welcome to What the Hell HEX.
Basically, I am a user of HEXRPG.COM, and while I love the site, some of the posts make me shake my head and throw some Canary Creams. I have decided that I am going to document some of the more frustrating/amusing ones here.
Let’s get some basics out there: You’re not finding out my username. I am a Ravenclaw and female, as you should soon figure out, so I will be going by the name Rowena on here.
I will be editing out some usernames and leaving some in. I feel less guilty about exposing trolls and jerks than I do about exposing idiots and emotional basket cases (for the simple reason that the former probably realize they are opening themselves up to ridicule), so I will be more inclined to leave the latter’s names out. However, I may be inconsistent about this. We’re all hiding behind usernames, and unless someone is putting their full name on HEX I don’t see how much damage could be done in calling them stupid on this blog. The Internet’s a rough, sometimes mean, place. Get used to it. Don’t say or do stupid things if you don’t want someone making fun of you.
Last but not least, this is not HEX so this is not rated PG. There will be swearing. And some off-color humor. That much should be apparent from the title of this blog. Get used to it.
